Light and shadow with the push of a button

Tempe/Arizona is one of the hottest places in the world with about 4,000 hours of sun per year. For this reason, effective solar protection was an absolute must for the planners of the “Papago Gateway Center” office complex. Light, able to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations, anti-glare and visually uniform – these were the requirements for the 2,600 solar protection panels made by Colt, the designer of the prefixed solar protection facade.

The SOLVARO solution is something to be proud of in every way: 2.5-mm-thick anodised aluminium edge flashings, round holes (Rv 8–12) and 40 % free outlet ensure an excellent climate in the “Papago Gateway Center” today. In addition, they contribute to reducing the air-conditioning costs by more than 20 %.

From the model to production

The solar protection facade is made up of rotating motor-driven louvers that allow daylight to enter or protect against solar radiation, depending on the weather. To test its operation, SOLVARO initially supplied models of the louvers. Integrated batch production began immediately after approval: it started with the perforation presses, continued to the punch and bending centre and included the machining of the anodised systems.

From the punch and bending centre to the facade

After making the louvers for the facade surface totalling more than 5,000 square metres, the SOLVARO experts dealt with another challenge. More than 2,600 louvers were packed safe for transport and delivered punctually in the shortest period of time. There were just ten months between the initial tender and the completed delivery.
