A clean solution for dusty business.

The Fendt Katana 65 was named after a particularly sharp Samurai long sword for a good reason. After all, its cutter head processes maximum quantities of forage in a short period of time. As a side effect, the process generates lots of dust, dirt, and particles – which could clog the cooling system. SOLVARO has developed a screen box that reliably protects the field giants from contaminants but allows enough cooling air for the 653-horsepower engine to be drawn in.

Not all screen boxes are alike.

To ensue the maximum air passage for cool air (> 60%), even for long harvest utilisation, we inserted a cone with a Hv 2-2.5 perforation. To prevent a ‘frog’ from forming, a material thickness of 1.2 mm was required. Since a cone of this size can no longer be made from one piece, we fused two perforated blanks using a point welding method developed especially for this application. This solution provides two advantages at the same time. Firstly, the free-air throughput quantity is not reduced, and secondly, the brush on the rotating suction device that cleans the cone is worn down evenly across the cone, even at the welding points.

Field test passed!

After the first prototype was used for over 600 hours in a field test, SOLVARO eliminated the last weak points and implemented ideas for further development. The cone was attached more securely to the frame. The cap that holds the suction device also had to be optimised. Our solution was to double the cap in a sandwich process, so that nothing would be able to shift, even during continuous use. The cone form would multiply any deviating suction device movement by a factor of 15. And to ensure a reliable rust protection after deburring, the entire assembly was coated with KTL and powder to make it ready for immediate installation.

THE SOLUTION AT A GLANCE

  • Hv 2-2.5 perforated steel sheet - material thickness 1.2 mm
  • Cone form for increased air passage
  • Stable mounting fixture for suction device
  • Deburred, KTL- and powder-coated
  • Ready for immediate installation
