Practical insights into the production of perforated components with demanding material thicknesses

Powerful machines in the agricultural and construction industries perform their tasks with a unique combination of power, precision and durability. To ensure that the powerhouses, such as Valtra Q Series tractors, can withstand all the stresses and strains, the bodywork must be designed to be suitably robust. When designing the deep drawn grilles and bonnets on the exposed front or sides of the vehicle, manufacturers often opt for a particularly robust and durable solution: a perforated metal component with a material thickness of 1.5 mm. This choice presents a particular challenge for the production of deep drawn sheet metal.

Solvaro has many years of experience in the production of perforated metal components with challenging materials. In partnership with Valtra, it has been possible to precisely implement the demanding Hv 2-2.5 perforation with a material thickness of 1.5 mm.

From a manufacturing point of view, the following applies to this material thickness: the smaller the perforation, the more demanding the perforated sheet production. Thanks to many years of practical experience, Solvaro has the necessary know-how and experience in dealing with Hv-perforated products in 1.5 mm material thickness. In cooperation with Valtra, the development and production specialists succeeded in realising a perforation with a diameter of 2.0 mm, thus achieving a free cross-section of 64%. Solvaro has already been able to demonstrate this special know-how in many other projects: The production spectrum ranges from Hv 2-2.8 perforations for a multifunctional vehicle to Hv 2-2.5 and Hv 4.5-5.3 perforations for a range of construction machines. Solvaro is also the right contact for other special cases, such as deep drawing or rust protection of perforated metal, when it comes to demanding specifications.
